Lilly Endowment: A Six Figure Challenge

Lilly Endowment Six Figure Challenge

The results are in from Lilly Endowment Inc's challenge through its Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT) initiative. You will be amazed at what you accomplished.

Lilly Endowment's recent $250,000 matching grant was one of the largest single grants our community has ever received.  In order to capitalize on this generous gift, we were asked to raise matching funds from within our communities.

Half the Lilly Endowment grant, $125,000, could be matched dollar-for-dollar by local contributions to the flexible and responsive Bright Future Fund, with earnings used to address ever-changing community needs.  The other half could be matched at a lesser rate (50 cents for each dollar donated) to funds with a designated purpose.

Your response to the challenge was overwhelming!

First Merchants Corporation, Community Hospital Anderson, and St. Vincent Anderson Regional signified their faith in our community’s future with their lead corporate gifts of over $10,000 each to the Bright Future Fund.

Private individuals took the opportunity to convert gifts of land and stock to benefit their community forever through their transfer to the Bright Future Fund.

Many supporters used their talents to host events or create products with the proceeds earmarked for the matching campaign. Others championed the work of the Foundation by attesting to their experience as donors or as beneficiaries of grant-funded programs.

More than just asking for your financial contribution to the matching campaign, we asked you to believe in the structure and the mission of our Community Foundation. We asked you to signify your belief in your small towns and their bright future. We asked you to invest today to address the needs of current and future generations.  And you did.

During the limited-time matching campaign, your gifts totaled $808,934.61.  Your gifts have been prudently invested and are already earning dividends to be awarded as grants that address community needs, not just this year, but every future year.  Thank you.
